Say, “In the bounty of Allah and in His mercy – in that let them rejoice; it is better than what they accumulate.” [Yunus : 58]
When I read this ayah I questioned myself; how do I feel when I learn the Qur’an? Do I rejoice and get happy, or do I feel burdened? Am I grateful for these words of Allah or do I wish I never heard them? Do these words touch me or do they sound like ordinary words?
The Qur’an, the words of Allah are so beautiful and intense. Each word, each ayah is so comprehensive that so much can be understood from it. It is such a great miracle that each time you read it, you learn something new. Allah tells us that these words are worth so much more than this world and everything in it. Then how can we feel burdened by reading these words, how can we wish we never heard them, how can they sound like ordinary words?
This Qur’an is from the fadl of Allah, it is his Rahmah on us. He didn’t need to bless us with this book, but Alhamdulillah He did. He could have left us lost in dunya without any guide to show us the right path, but He gave us the Qur’an to help us find the straight path and stay firm on it. Now it’s up to us and how we use it. Do we just leave the Qur’an at the top level in our bookshelf wrapped in expensive silk? Or do we open that book, read it and hold it close to our heart? We need to stop hoarding things in the dunya that will all leave us one day, and instead hoard the Qur’an. Only that will help us not only in dunya but also our akhirah.
